🟠 About Orange Horizon BTC
Orange Horizon BTC is an independent Bitcoin mining publication. Research, analysis, and operator notes from someone who has been mining Bitcoin since 2019. No hype. No price calls. No lengthy ads.

🟠 Who I Am
My B.Sc. in Geology trained me to study systems that operate on deep timescales — the same kind of long-horizon thinking Bitcoin’s security model depends on. Fieldwork, data analysis, and systems research aren’t just academic skills. They’re how I evaluate mining economics and network fundamentals.
My day job is seasonal, which keeps me busy from spring to late fall. During the off-season, I learn new skills, test new tools, and build in the digital world. Mining and research are what I build toward year-round.
I’m based in Manitoba, Canada, where I mine Bitcoin at home using hydroelectric power at roughly $0.074 USD per kWh — a rate that includes all taxes and fees. That rate is cheaper than about 97% of residential rates in the North American dataset I reference, roughly 44% below the continental average and 35% below the median.
That’s not a brag. It’s context. Profitable home mining with commercial-grade hardware requires a power rate that a lot of residential customers in North America don’t have — unless they get creative with heat recapture during cold months or register a small business for a few tax advantages. It all helps. My rate lets me run commercial ASICs at home and write about them from direct operational experience.
🟠 What I Run
My primary machines are Bitmain commercial ASICs running third-party firmware, which noticeably improves efficiency. I mine commercially, accumulate sats, and hold long-term — I don’t sell weekly or monthly.
I also run Canaan Avalon Q ASICs to heat rooms during the cold season, plus a few low-watt solo lottery miners for fun.
🟠 What This Site Is
This site is for people wondering if Bitcoin mining still makes sense. It’s for miners who want to heat their homes with mining hardware and take self-custody of their rewards. It’s for operators running commercial ASICs who want real data instead of hype. And it’s for people who prefer reading over video.
Every essay is:
▫️ Free to read, no lenghty ads, no paywalls
▫️ Grounded in real operational experience with real hardware
▫️ Fact-checked with live network data at time of publication
▫️ Organized with a table of contents for fast navigation
I cover difficulty adjustments, hashrate trends, mining economics, hardware analysis, getting-started guides, and the realities of running mining equipment at home. If you’re looking for price predictions or ETF commentary, this isn’t the site for you.
